Where Did Lindsay K. Go?

I’ll start off with the usual line I use for my all blog entries so far this summer: Oops! I’m sorry! It’s been crazy around the house and my life isn’t as focused around the humming of the computer but rather by the side of the pool listening to the splashes of water against my feet (and the evil penetration of the UVB rays…we’ll get to that part in a bit). Between work, work, more work, and an occasional side dish of work, and friends and lounging, I haven’t had time to sit down and blog. By 12:00 at night, I’m spent for the day and ready to hit the hay. My life is such an odd one.

Work has been ooper terrifc as always. I also might add that I am suffering from total opposites disease in that last sentence. The more I work there, the more I can’t believe I’m still there checking out ignorant people’s grub for a mere $5.15 an hour. But when payday rolls around, it makes me happy. And when I can buy items at the store, which makes me even happier. I’ve missed out on shopping for awhile; it’s time to catch up. (Not that I’m saying that I’m going hog wild, that’s not my style. I’m actually quite thrift and keep a record of my earnings and spendings. Go figure.)

Getting together with friends has been fun when I get to, in between work and such. Whether it be shopping or breakfast, I love a good time out with the girls. This Saturday is the Potluck Cookout I am hosting. It’s the third in my line of unforgettable parties. Yes, wild drinks and cops showing up all at once. I’m just kidding, I’m not that wild, goodness. Of course I hide the liquor so we don’t get caught…just kidding!

The Potluck Cookout will be a smashing old time. The first cookout/party was my 16th birthday party when I invited several friends from my high school and my youth group out for a night of the usual: food, hot dogs, and the usual cake and candles. Yet this party took a wild twist when many of the couples seemed to flock away into the neighboring field next to my yard. My parents returned to a party that had half disappeared while the remaining singles lingered around playing Taboo. This party was thus named “The Make-Out Party” and is still remembered to this day by those attending and those who did not and have just caught wind of it through the story telling. Soon your children’s children will be reciting a tale of Lindsay’s field. Heck, it was a Senior memory spoken about at graduation and in the yearbook-why not?

The party after that was not so much a make-out party yet one to remember. Of course, at the beginning of the party, I laid down the ground rules, like not breaking or slipping out into the field again for a little tongue twister time, but I went on a more adventurous journey. After opening up my cute presents from my friends I started to open the very last one that lead me on a scavenger hunt with another friend of mine to only discover Good Charolette tickets for a concert I was going to be attending. I went nuts and couldn’t believe how exciting the news was. The concert was terrific and one of the best birthday gifts I’ve ever received.

As you can see, there is a great pattern of excitement in these “Lindsay K. Cookouts” and I hope there is all that and more at the upcoming Potluck Cookout. I don’t think many of the people I invited understand the concept of “potluck” meaning you bring something to eat; a possible reminder might have to be enforced tomorrow by phone…hmm.

Aside from the plan for the cookout, which I will try to give a recap on days later, I’ve been chillin’ and enjoying the heat. I really do soak up this hot weather because it’s what I dreamed of on those -10 degree days in Edinboro with 2 feet of snow surrounding me leaving me to feel like a little Eskimo girl in a frozen tundra of despair. The sun, the pool, the clothes- give it to me- I love it all.

I’ve had some strange fascination with traveling for some reason lately. I find my hometown quite bland at times because I’ve seen it for 18 some odd years of my life, but if I imagine it being a place like Vero Beach, FL or some new and exciting location on the globe, I’m tickled pink and filled with adventure. I’d love to go to the beach, so much that living there would be a treat! Seeing that I didn’t get to go to the beach until last summer, I’ve got years of saltwater and seashells to make up for!

Yet along with summertime leaves a bitter sting, or should I say “red burn”. After a day of cleaning my neighbor/cousin’s pool and spending the day poolside and swimming with Cousin V, I’ve returned to the house tonight looking like Sammy the Lobster. I applied a brand of sunscreen in the morning at 11, cleaned the pool, got done and split some leftover yet yummy pizza with V, spend time in and out of the pool from 1 to 4, and I’ve turned into Bob the tomato from Veggie Tales. I tried taking a picture of it for your “ooo”ing and “awww”ing response but the flash doesn’t capture the pigment of my poor and abused skin. I must go to work tomorrow and turn into the butt of all joke but in response I will proudly tell all of them “Those stories were true. I told you so!” The reputation as the “whitest cashier” will now be changed to the “reddest cashier” tomorrow. I can’t really cover it up, it’s too painful.

I’ve learned that I need to toss away SPH 30 and move on to a more mature level- SPH 50. No more games, Mr. Sun- I’m going to play hardball. I’ve now made a vow to go no less. Sure, I will keep my SPH 30 for days when it rains and I turn into a hermit of some kind of crawl in a hole for the entire day, but as far as sunlight and me- SPH 50 baby, all the way. I can afford the extra few bucks because right now- I’m paying for it!

I’ve posted some pictures of the things that have been going down in the Life of Lindsay K. since May 31st, the last time I posted a blessed thing. I’m behind on everyone’s blogs, which makes me quite sad because I love reading them and seeing people actually care about the silly ramblings of a Pennsylvanian-fried 18 year old who wears a green smock all day at work. I hope I can get up-to-date on your stories as well. From my heat radiating skin to yours, have a great day and slap on the lotion!
